In What Ways Does Your Media Product Use, Develop or
Challenge Forms of Conventions from Real Media Products?

Frame 1: Settings
The first frame of my analysis is our choice of setting, a secondary school. We choose a secondary school setting because it would provide our trailer with multiple different settings to allow us to ensure we had the over crowded settings in a stereotypical physiological thriller. Another reason as to why we choose a slowed down tracking shot to be pout first frame was because it directly gives an insight into our plot, as most audiences would associate this slow image of school lockers with the setting of a secondary school. In my research I found that the use of children characters and school settings are used very often in psychological thriller films, such as 'Elephant' as children are considered the most vulnerable group in society. Therefore, our first frame showing the setting of a school gives an instant indication that the subject of childhood is likely to be involved.
Frame 2: Props

Frame 2 is a focus pull close up of a (pretend) gun, we have used for the purpose of the film trailers genre. This is one of the main points in the trailer that the audience will realise the school is being intruded by someone with a gun, despite their being vulnerable and innocent children in the school. The gun also introduces fear and terror, a convention of the thriller narrative. Like in many thriller films audiences see the antagonist directly tormenting the victims, we used this approach in our film trailer, so that the audience is aware of the plot in the film. This means that audiences are more likely to sympathise with the film trailer because young innocent children are being threatened violently, parents will be drawn to the film because they themselves are parents to children. By using dramatic irony in our film and trailer we will draw a wider audience to our film.
Frame 3: Introducing characters
Throughout the trailer, only two characters are introduced, one of which would be considered the main character. We choose to only have two characters in our trailer because we felt the more characters that are added the more it distracts the audience from the plot. The lack of characters featuring in the trailer also meant we could focus on developing the villains characters, so that the audiences can get an insight into the villains mind.
In the Final Bell trailer the main character wears a mask on his face covering his identity, we did this because generically in my researched films of shooting films the characters wear something to disguise their identity. An example of a real media product that uses masks on their villain characters would be the Joker who plays in 'The Dark Knight' and the villains that play in the recent marvel film 'Spiderman Homecoming', these characters are wearing a mask to not only hide their identity but to also make the audience aware that these characters are the villains in the film.
Frame 4: Camera and Editing
Before filming our trailer, we made a plan of what we wanted to capture for our film trailer, this plan included all of our camera shots, movements and angles.
Frame 4 shows another picture of the gun, lying on a table ready to be loaded up with ammunition. We took this shot with a focused lens on the camera, to create a clear and bright picture of the gun. A close up shot is turned into an extreme close up of the shot as the camera is pulled towards the gun, this shot is used to emphasise the power of the gun, which is a conventional method used when a shooting is the main plot to a film.
Frame 5: Release date
The fifth frame of my analysis is our release date of when our film be in cinemas. We choose to add this into out trailer because it allows the audience to pre book tickets to see the film and to make sure they watch the film on the date that it is released.
Deciding our font was an important task, as it would be used throughout our whole project, so that synergy was created between the different platforms. As a group we decided to use the 'Impact' font as we felt it matched the thriller genre and our plot. We choose this font because it has a look as if it is very simple and basic, just like how a school would make a sign. The 'Coming This September' appears in capital letters, emphasising struggle.
Frame 6: Costume

Frame 6 Shows how we used dark and dull lighting to portray an evil character. We made our main character wear all black clothing, to connote his dark and evil soul, along with the mask hiding his identity.
Frame 7 & 8: Sound
Sound has played a massive role in our film trailer, we had our music made for us and from our researched film trailer of 'Elephant' we decided to use slow past music, that sets a calm atmosphere so that the audience don't anticipate any violence or terror in the film. So that when the plot unveils during the film trailer, the audience is shocked and surprised and want to carry on watching to see if the children get hurt or escape the evil villain.
We also edited in a variety of different sounds to create added suspense to the trailer. A few examples that feature in our trailer could be the reflex of the gun being loaded, we edited in a realistic sound of a gun being loaded up and the barrel being pulled back, we made sure this fitted with what was displayed on the screen. Another added sound into our film trailer was a real media news report, reporting a school shooting in North Carolina because in the time we were editing out trailer a school shooting happened in America, so therefore this real media news report was very relevant to our film and therefore we had to add it into our trailer.
Frame 9: Our film title 'The Final Bell'
The last frame of my analysis is our choice of film title, The Final Bell. We choose this title because it directly sets the scene for our plot, as most audiences would associate this statement with a secondary school. In my research I found that the topic of children, occurs a lot in thriller films, such as 'Taken' and 'Orphan' as children are considered the most vulnerable group in society.
Like the release date that features in the trailer, the title is also in the font 'Impact' so that the audience can see synergy across all of my media platforms that advertise the film. This is so that the audience recognise the font on a poster, magazine or trailer and instantly recognise that the object is advertising the film 'The Final Bell'.
Final Frames: Magazine Cover and Film Poster
Film Magazine:
For my final frame I wanted to incorporate a screenshot of the bottom right section of my magazine, as I feel this section of the magazine most complies with the typical conventions of a magazine cover.
My magazine cover includes a small image of another media product - Naughty List - which is also a thriller.
The close up of my magazine cover also shows a part of the title of my film, unfortunately I didn't use the font 'Impact' because it didn't suit the layout of my magazine, however I did incorporate the font 'Impact' in the actual title of my film magazine 'Crosscut'. This shows synergy across my media platforms which helps to advertise my audiences as they will recognise the font of the titles.
